About My Work

Michael Kariya advises companies, financial sponsors and foreign law firms on a wide variety of transactions inbound to Canada, including cross-border mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions, joint venture and shareholders agreements, corporate reorganizations, and general advisory matters.

Michael has particular expertise in private equity, and in the technology, mining, energy, infrastructure, and defence sectors.

Early in his career, Michael was seconded to a multinational integrated energy company, providing him with valuable experience considering issues from the perspectives of business and in-house legal teams.

  • Coty on Canadian aspects of its strategic transaction with KKR for Coty's Professional and Retail Hair business valued at US$4.3-billion
  • Real Assets Advisers on Canadian aspects of the proposed sale of KKR's 33.33% equity stake in ACCIONA Energía Internacional to AXA Investment Managers – Real Assets and ACCIONA S.A.
  • Odyssey Investment Partners on the Canadian aspects of its acquisition of ProPharma Group from Linden Capital Partners
